If you’re planning a trip to Barcelona then you will have seen that there are a few different attraction passes available. After using these ourselves, we wanted to create a post to discuss if the Barcelona Go City Pass is worth it.
We’ve used the Go City passes in a few different destinations now including the all-inclusive pass in NYC and the explorer pass in Rome. After using them in a few different destinations, we decided to give them a try in Barcelona and we weren’t disappointed.
Even though we didn’t use the Barcelona Go City passes to their full potential on our trip, we still managed to save a lot of money and get to see plenty of attractions. Another highlight is that some of the attractions also have skip-the-line included so you are also saving time too!
Whilst there are a few shortcomings with the Barcelona pass, if it is your first time visiting the city then this is the perfect companion for exploring and seeing as many sights as possible.

Attractions Included in the Barcelona Pass
With most of the Go City Passes you will find that there are some attractions that are included in the explorer pass and not in the all-inclusive pass and vice versa. Barcelona is no different and there are a few that are included in one but not the other so it is always worth checking this before purchasing your attraction pass.

In our opinion, we find that the all-inclusive pass is the best value because you will be able to save a lot more money using this pass. We also find that it is great for first-time visitors to Barcelona to really make the most of the city.
However, if you have a day in Barcelona or two then you may find that the Explorer pass is better value for money as you’ll be able to see a few sights before departing the city.

Pros & Cons of the Barcelona Pass
Pros
1. Plenty of savings
One of the main reasons that you will want to purchase a Barcelona City Pass is that it is much cheaper to do this than to purchase tickets to the attractions individually.
When we visited Barcelona, we found that we saved approximately €100 each using a 3-day attraction pass. In honesty, we probably didn’t use the pass to the best of its ability as on a couple of the days we weren’t as organised and participated in a lot of Barcelona’s free attractions which we could have done on a different day when we were using the pass.
Before purchasing either of the passes, it may be worth doing the maths by working out what attractions you want to visit, how much it would normally cost and then compare it to the cost of the attraction pass.
If you’re staying in Barcelona for at least 4-5 days then these attraction passes are even better value because the longer you purchase the all-inclusive pass for, the better the savings. You will find that after 5 days in Barcelona, you will be able to do the majority of the activities that are included with the pass including some of the day tours and in turn, save a lot more money too.
2. Lots of Attractions Included
We found that there were a lot of attractions included with the Barcelona pass that made it worth the money. The majority of Gaudi’s buildings with guided tours are included with the passes which are some of the main attractions in Barcelona.
In our opinion, one of the best experiences that is included in the Go City pass is the day trip to Andorra & France from Barcelona. It is an all-day tour that usually costs around €129 per person. Whichever pass you purchase, this is absolutely great value for money and also a great way to see a couple of other countries at the same time!
From food tours, museums, architecture, day trips and so much more, the Barcelona Go City Pass really does offer a wide range of activities!
3. Unique Experiences
You will find that the Barcelona passes offer a lot of different activities but that there is also a wide range of categories to appease everyone.
Whether you’re a traveller that enjoys art and culture, independent sightseeing, museums or even viewpoints, there is a little something for everyone!
One of the activities that we think is quite unique is that there is a choice for an independent travel to Montserrat with the bus included. We have already written a post on how to get to Montserrat from Barcelona both independently and using a guided tour and this makes the independent option much more affordable!
Equally, we also think it is impressive that there is a day tour from Barcelona included that takes you to France & Andorra. This is quite an expensive tour if you’re booking this outside of the pass so it is well worth the money for that alone especially if you purchase an all-inclusive pass for between 3-5 days too.
4. Flexibility
No matter which pass you decide on, they are extremely flexible and make it easy to use even if your travel plans change. When you purchase these passes, they only activate at the first attraction so if your travel dates change or your trip gets cancelled, you still have at least a year to use your pass and not lose any money.
With the all-inclusive pass, you have the choice of between 2-5 days so this suits most travellers and the length of time they’re visiting Barcelona. The explorer pass is just as flexible where you can choose from between 2-7 attractions in Barcelona which gives you plenty of choice!
5. Easy to Use
The Go City passes are easy to use and you are able to download the passes directly to your phone. This will give you a QR code which can be scanned at the attraction when you arrive from your phone.
Some of the attractions in Barcelona require advance booking but when you have the app on your phone, it will show you which ones need to be pre-booked. You can also save the attractions you’d like to visit in your favourites to make it even easier to plan your trip.
Cons
1. Does not include every attraction
There are still a lot of attractions in Barcelona that are not included with the pass so depending on what you’re planning to do in the city, the pass may not work for you.
Before purchasing the pass, it might be worth having a look at the different attractions that you would like to visit and checking which ones are included on the pass you’re planning to buy to make sure that it is worth the money for you!
2. Some attractions only included on one of the passes
There are a couple of attractions included in the Barcelona All-Inclusive pass that we listed above that are not available if you purchase the Explorer pass. This can be quite limiting if there are a couple of things that you’re wanting to see those items but only have limited time in Barcelona so need an explorer pass.
The All-Inclusive pass is less restricted because there is only 1 activity that is included just on the Explorer pass so this may be the best option if you don’t want to be limited.
3. Advance booking required for some attractions
Some of the attractions on the pass do require advance booking so that you can guarantee a place when you visit. Most of the pass enables you to just turn up at the attraction on the day but there are a few where you need to book.
This is somewhat a con to the Barcelona pass because even though it can be inconvenient to book them in advance, it is handy to know which attractions are due to be busy so that you can plan in advance.
4. Can Require planning to make the most of it
As we mentioned previously some of the attractions are low value so in order to get the best value from your pass, you will need to make plans for what you’re going to use the pass for.
That being said, if you’re purchasing the all-inclusive pass then you will want to make sure you are getting the most out of your pass by going to as many attractions as possible. The best way to do this is by planning out what attractions you want to visit in Barcelona and checking the cost of them all to see whether the pass is worth the money.
With the Barcelona Explorer Pass, you will want to see how much the cost of the attractions are before purchasing as some of the attractions are low value. If there are a few low-value attractions that you want to visit then it may not be worth the money.
Our Experience: Is the Barcelona Go City Pass Worth the Money?
In our opinion, anything that saves us money when we are travelling is definitely worthwhile. When we used the Barcelona Go City Pass, we were able to save around €100 each than if we were to book all the attractions independently.
We purchased a 3 day all-inclusive Barcelona pass but in fairness, we only used it for a full day and then a couple of attractions on the other days. This is just because we didn’t organise our plans enough and wanted to do some of the free & cheap activities Barcelona has to offer. It probably didn’t help that we booked to go to Montserrat through the pass but managed to oversleep and miss our bus!!
If we managed to save that much money using the pass when we weren’t planning our trip as much then with some organisation, you should be able to save a lot of money using them.
With everything that the Barcelona Go City Pass has to offer, we have to say that we really do think that they are worth the money and would recommend them to anyone that is travelling to Barcelona.
